The name ‘Changzamtog’: Its’ Origin
Changzamtog was initially known as Changzamdoe. That was because there was a bridge facing the area. However, with the passage of time the pronunciation changed to Changzamtog as it is still known today.
Background History of the school.
The land where the school is constructed today was owned by different owners. It is said that the land was in the form of paddy field / wet land. The owners who gave their land were Ex. Chang Gup Ugyen Tshering , Tandin Nya, Dasho Yeshi, Aum Wangmo, Ap Tachub and party it was also owned by Dratshang. It is said that those owners whose land were taken the construction of the school were given only 400 Rs for 25 decimal as compensation by the government.
Establishment of school
The school was opened in 1978 as a primary school.The school had five teachers and about a one hundred students. The first head of school was Mr S.L. Rai from Darjeeling, India. The school building consisted of just two one-storied structures which housed the head teacher’s office as well as the classrooms and toilets.

Over the years, there was constant development and finally in 1998 the school was upgraded from a primary school to a secondary school. Today, the school is headed by Mrs Jigme Choden and she is aided by four vice principals in the day to day running of the school. There are a total of 55 teachers, and 1533 students.
